They’re actually Mazdas. Not a huge fan of them.

They are pretty cool, cleaning the litter pan is kind of a pain though.

I haven’t thought of them in a long time. As I remember they weren’t really much of a driver’s car, more of a boulevard cruiser. Wiki tells me the XR2 had a better suspension and a turbo engine, though, so who knows?

As the insane Mercury fan on here I’ll give my opinion first.
I think Mercury wanted a rear engine coupe to say “look what we can do” to the Toyota MR2 and (the already dead) Fiero.
I also think Ford Corporate said “are you fucking kidding me?!” and then said “you put that engine back up front where it belongs”
It’s a cool concept, a sporty little Mercury, and shares quite a bit with a Mazda 323 so there’s some good part sharing, but this shape car should’ve been RWD in my opinion.
In short it leaves me pretty much feeling like - oh cool Mercury made this awesome little rear engine/rwd ca.... shit . God dammit Ford why’d ya have to ruin it?!
Also I hope he doesn’t want much for it:

You mean it’s not mid-engined?? It sure looks like it.

Nope, it’s damn near between the headlights.

It actually has a back seat, hence the proportions.
And I wonder who actually killed it being mid engine (if that was ever the plan) - Ford Australia was behind it, and they used Mazda componentry. I wouldn’t be surprised if Mazda killed any mid engine plans, to avoid it competing against the Miata...

If it wasn’t the design language is what always makes me think it was. Sharing components with a Front/Front Mazda pretty much rules the idea out to begin with.

Makes for a much better story lol
And the way it looks I’ve always believed someone in the Mercury design room got more ambitious than Ford was going to allow.

Well, to be fair, the MR2 was basically Corolla bits, so it could have been MR...

Apart from the engine, I’ve always found more Tercel parts in mine than Corolla ones.

Ford Australia, so it could have just been reversed when it got to the top hemisphere.

I’ve always liked these, especially the rare 1994 facelifted XR2 turbo. But it was definitely overshadowed by the Miata, even though it had more power.

Much like the Honda Del Sol, it looks like it should have been a mid engine rear drive sports car. Instead it was a sporty looking load of blah. Get yourself an MR2 or Fiero instead.

My dad had an non-turbo Capri for awhile back in the mid 90's. Without the turbo, they are a properly slow car. Overall, they are inforerior to a miata in every way. The top is not nearly as good, they don’t handle particularly well, they look a bit funky, and they were not easy to find parts for even when they were only a few years old. Every one of them is likely to have a broken glovebox handle, and that glovebox assembly was made of unobtainium even in 1994. They do have a back seat, but only in the academic sense of the term. No one over the age of double digits is going fit back there.

A high school friend had this 2002 WRX Impreza:
Another friend had this 2004 WRX Impreza:
They were alright, spartan interiors that always rattled and seemed to be very poorly built, not very comfortable either. They were both pretty reliable, think the 04 burned oil and the AC failed on the 02. My parents used to have Subarus and I remembered the 1996 Legacy GT my dad had bought new leaked oil for as long as I can remember.
